Overview
According to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, the Pandavas built the temple during their exile. The temple was constructed after the lake was completed. The temple is located at an altitude of 12 thousand feet above sea level, making it the highest temple in the world. People of any religion, caste, or creed are welcome to come and pray to Lord Krishna. Visitors are greeted with a smile and a warm embrace, regardless of their age.
The “Janmashtami” celebration is widely celebrated in the region by the present Bushah king, King Kehari Singh of the Bushahr estate. Legend has it that a traditional Kinnaur cap is thrown into a lake by the Yulla Kanda temple as part of the celebration. If the cap floats to the other side without sinking, it is believed that the person will have a year filled with peace, joy, and calmness.
On the anniversary of Lord Krishna’s birth, a large crowd gathers at the temple to seek forgiveness for their sins and wrongdoings. This tradition is a significant event for visitors, residents, and people from nearby districts who participate in the ritual of throwing the cap into the lake.
